What To
Expect From A Liposuction Procedure
Since time immemorial, women have always been noted to be conscious of
their physical self.
Cleopatra had been known to bathe in milk to keep her skin youthful
looking, while some swear on egg mixture for an instant face-lift.
With the evolution of time, many have seen and noted the improvement
and advancement of various procedures to defy time's hold on everyone,
ageing.
Though women are more vain when it comes to personal grooming and
maintenance, there are some men who likewise invest for the better
physical look.
The look of being physically fit is one on the top list of most
people. When dieting and exercise cannot do any improvement
(having fat on most parts of the body such as the belly area sometimes
have to do with a person's genetic make up), liposuction seems to be
the only answer.
Liposuction is the melting and extraction of fat on the body of the
patient. Early liposuction
procedures require the patient being under a general anesthesia
thus posing more risk on the part of the patient.
Modern times have seen improvements on the procedure of liposuction. It
has been revolutionized with the introduction of the tumescent
technique.
The said technique allows the performance of the procedure by applying
only local anesthesia. This had greatly lessened the risk of
complications arising from the procedure, thus an increase in its
popularity and preference by probable patients.
Before undergoing liposuction, the patient must take into consideration
the following:
1. The patient
The individual is not required to undergo a special diet prior to the
operation.
Still, certain drugs must be avoided prior to the procedure. This
includes aspirin, ibuprofen and other anti-inflammatory substances for
at least 10 days before the scheduled liposuction.
2. Transportation
After the procedure, it would be best if the patient would have someone
to pick him or her up from the clinic to let the patient have some time
of rest.
3. Resting period
This usually lasts for 2 to 3 days. A longer period would usually
prolong the recovery. If the patient undergoes the procedure on a
Friday, he or she is usually ready to go back to work or other usual
activities on Monday.
4. After the procedure
If the patient is working from his or her home, he or she may perform
light tasks like working using the computer, the phone or at a
desk. He or shay may usually drive a vehicle again the following
day.
Liposuction usually is performed on the lower and upper abdomen, waist,
thighs, neck, hips and buttocks.
Other parts include the back, arms, ankle, knees and calves.
The whole procedure is composed of the following:
1. The patient's body is marked using a felt-tipped
pen.
2. An intravenous line (IV) is inserted on the arm
3. The patient's oxygen level is closely monitored
using an instrument that is placed on ones' finger.
4. The doctor then would use small needles to
anesthetize the area where long needles would be inserted.
These long needles would be used to anesthetize the subcutaneous
fat. This is almost painless.
5. More anesthesia would be infused if an area is
still not completely numb after thorough checking.
6. The patient would have to empty out his or her
bladder with the help of some clinic staff.
7. The actual liposuction would then be performed.
Still, before considering the procedure, it would be best if the
patient would weigh its pros and cons since this could differ from
person to person depending on ones' priorities and interest.
